Welcome to Computer Science/E-sports
Computer Science 1
This is a semester entry level compute science course. We will be primarily using the learning management system code.org. The goal of this course is to promote critical thinking and problem solving through the use of computers. In addition to developing our coding skills, we will also focus on the proper use of Microsoft 365. This will include
Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Canva (a great presentation program).
Advanced Computer Science
This 7th & 8th grade yearlong course is an intermediate computer science course for students looking to expand their coding skills that were developed in my Computer Science 1 course. The goal of this course is to promote critical thinking and problem solving through the use of computers. In addition to expanding our coding skills, we will also focus on the proper use of Microsoft 365. This will include Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Canva (a great presentation program). Also, more project-based activities such as developing games and a website will be explored.
E-Sports 1 (6th grade semester long course)
What is this course all about? First, yes, your student will be playing video games as a significant part of this course, and part of their grade will be based upon participation in these video games. However, there is more to the course than video games. Students will be completing assignments and activities related to building resilience, collaborating with
peers, setting goals and understanding the work ethic to reach them, refining their emotional intelligence, maintaining gaming and social media safety, and lastly, looking at careers related to the gaming world. We will also learn some basic coding and game design.
